Abstract

A study of the factors influencing efficiency of business households in manufacturing sectors in Soc Trang province aims at providing information for the potential solutions to improve their business efficiency. Data from the Department of Planning and Investment of Soc Trang in 2016-2018 and a survey of 150 business households in processing and manufacturing sectors. Factors affecting household’s business performance and efficiency include two groups: external and internal. ROS was the main indicator to evaluate business efficiency of households. The results show that the number of business households in processing and manufacturing sectors has increased over the years, faster in rural areas. The business efficiency of households in processing and manufacturing sectors in Soc Trang province is very low. Proposed solutions to improve their business efficiency include: (i) upgrading the infrastructure; (ii) market development; (iii) tax policy; (iv) strengthen the reform of administrative procedures; (v) support services for business household; (vi) access to capital and credit; (vii) improve the quality of human resources for business households.
