Despite many studies have been conducted related to assessment, few studies focus on listening assessment in specific, especially different listening task types in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Thus, this thesis followed the descriptive approach with mixed methods (both quantitative and qualitative methods) to investigate the EFL college teachers’ perceptions and implementation of different listening task types in this region. In particular, the study aims to discover teachers’ perceptions of different listening task types in terms of basic concepts, purposes, and principles. Then, it focuses on ways how teachers choose different listening task types for implementation towards basic concepts and principles. It also explores the relationship between teachers’ perceptions and their implementation.
This research brings about insight into the EFL college teachers’ understanding of different listening task types, ways how teachers choose them for implementation, and the relationship between their perceptions and implementation. Hence, the teachers realize their weaknesses and strengths in their understanding and their implementation of listening task types. The educational administrators are motivated to organize more training programs, workshops, seminars to support the teachers.
