Abstract

Objective of this research was to assess the technical efficiency of commercial banks in Vietnam after merging. Data were collected from five commercial banks participated in merging during the period 2010-2016. After merging, besides having structural change in quantity, most of merged banks also had change in quality. Data envelopment analysis and CAMEL model were used to evaluate these commercial banks after merging. Results show that when a strong bank having merged with a weaker bank, its operation was affected but able maintain efficiency in the following years.
